With Windows you can schedule jobs to take place, much like Linux/UNIX/Mac's cron jobs.
It's under Accessories/System Tools/Scheduled Tasks. You will need to know the command line equivalent for many programs as well as any necessary switches. This blog does a nice job documenting the options. TechRepublic's forum was his resource for it.
