Office Customization Tool

For anyone who administers more than a handful of computers with Microsoft Office running, I consider it essential to be familiar with the Office Customization Tool (OCT).

This command-line launched GUI utility is great. You can configure a computer's profile for all Office apps. In particular, my group configured our Windows computers for Office 2007 and changed the default save format as the legacy Office 2003 .doc, .xlsx, etc. because not everyone is using Office 2007 (Mac 2008) or another office suite that reads XML documents. We also fine tune the Outlook balloon dialogs so they don't appear as frequently (those of you using Outlook in cached mode will know what I'm referring to!).

Save yourself a lot of time and headache by looking into the OCT and save yourself a ton of time and gain consistency.
